Relationship to Specicon

Specicon product

Specicon built the Inspector so anyone can see exactly how a Specicon decision is made. It runs a shopping scenario (five products, four weighted factors, one price rule) and shows every step of the result.

Who it is for

Product teams, buyers and reviewers who need to see how a recommendation is made before they trust one.

The problem

Recommendation systems usually return an answer without the working. A buyer cannot evaluate, or defend, what they cannot see.

What you can do in it today

  • Set a budget ceiling and watch products leave the eligible set by rule, with the rule printed
  • Name an occasion, or leave it unknown and see it contribute exactly 0.00
  • Open any ranked product to see its four factors add up to its score
  • Compare the ranking with the 10% holdout arm, which follows the same rules
  • Read the origin of every input: declared, observed, inferred, derived or unknown

What Specicon contributed

  • Interaction and information design
  • The decision model: four weighted factors and a price constraint
  • The provenance labels now used across the site
  • An eight-segment decision barcode, operable by keyboard, with a full-sentence label on every segment
  • Responsive engineering and six-width QA

Technology and engines

Present
  • A decision adapter with one method and one return shape
  • Matching, ranking, constraint and explanation on every result
  • An explanation attached to every result
